Let's Get Cooking club guidelines

1. Let's Get Cooking clubs are based in schools.  They are open to young people aged between five and 18, and their families.

2. Let's Get Cooking is only available to clubs based in England. There is a limit of one club per school.

3. Club members will be given as much responsibility as is appropriate and they should contribute to decisions about club activities as much as possible.

4. The headteacher will take overall responsibility for ensuring that the club follows appropriate health and safety and Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) procedures and follows correct financial procedures. The club will have a Coordinator/Demonstrator and at least one other helper or Demonstrator to provide adult leadership. Other volunteers should help as needed. The headteacher must also ensure that the Coordinator, all Demonstrators and any other people helping in the running or supervising of a Let’s Get Cooking club are fully insured against all claims and liabilities that they may incur as a consequence of their involvement with such club.

5. The club should aim to run for a minimum of three years. If any adult leaders are unable to sustain their help, the headteacher must try to find a replacement.

6. The headteacher and Club Coordinator will ensure that club activities are at a level where they can be sustained over at least three years. This may mean running three- to five-week blocks for each group, followed by a short break before the next group. Each term different children and their families should be introduced to Let's Get Cooking activities.

7. The club must meet a minimum of 12 times per year as well as holding at least three community events (involving parents, family members, the wider school and/or local community) per year.

8. The Club Coordinator and one other adult (if wanted) should attend the Introductory Session, held locally.*

9. Two adult Demonstrators will attend a two-day basic cooking/food hygiene training session, held locally.*

10. A group of children and adults (up to six per school) will attend a Start-Up Day in their region.*

11. In order to qualify for the following year's funding the club must provide a minimum of 15, short, online activity reports per year, providing brief details of 12 club meetings and three community events.  In addition, a brief summary of how funds were spent is required each year. The club will retain evidence of this expenditure for a period of two years, and will make the evidence available to Let's Get Cooking on request.

12. If the club is unable to continue or needs to postpone activity for one term or more, the headteacher or Club Coordinator should inform the Let's Get Cooking Regional Club Coordinator.|

13. The club should encourage club members to replicate recipes and skills learnt at home. All children and adults who have prepared food in a club session should be given a free copy of the recipe immediately after they have prepared it. Copies of recipes should also be made available to those attending special events. They should either be free or at a price which covers printing costs only.

14. Clubs may reproduce Let’s Get Cooking resources providing that they do not alter their appearance and providing that clubs do not use the resources (including reproductions) for any commercial purpose nor charge third parties for reproduction (other than to cover printing costs).

15. Clubs should not charge club members (whether children, young people or adults) to attend club activities.

16. A sample of clubs will be chosen to take part in a research study to measure the success of the programme.  Clubs must use Template Letter 4 or 5 (available to download from the Let’s Get Cooking website) to notify parents/carers that club members may be selected to take part in the research study.

*Not applicable to associate clubs
