A 'cracking' Polish egg recipe from Year 9 Student
Let's Get Cooking club members at Coombe Dean School in Plymouth took part in four egg-themed cookery sessions during the summer term. They made Scotch Eggs, Bacon and Leek Frittata and Blueberry Pancakes. Their final session was led by one of the Club members, a Year 9 Polish student, who demonstrated his mother's favourite recipe, Pierogi.
This dish is a bit like a small Cornish pasty without the vegetables and all the club members thought it was absolutely delicious. The meat in this recipe is very finely minced and to achieve this, Patrick borrowed his mum's mincer. The mince is then put into dough and boiled - students decorated their dough with an amazing range of patterns. This activity was a great opportunity for club members to learn about food from another country and try something new. It was a great success!
Over the last year, the club has also learned to cook Chinese, Italian and barbeque food. Club members took part in an Indian Theme Day when the whole school sat down to enjoy an Indian lunch; they helped to decorate the dining hall, serve the food and helped catering staff to clear up.
