Club curries under canvas for hundreds at High Storrs celebration event
Club members running an outdoor Let’s Get Cooking stall were a big hit at a huge, 75th anniversary celebration at High Storrs secondary school in Sheffield this summer.
Hundreds of guests who attended the event to celebrate the school’s move 75 years ago from the city centre to its current hilltop location, enjoyed delicious meals cooked outside and served by 22 Year 9 Club members. Their chicken biryani, seven-vegetable curry, dips with dippers and range of scones were so delicious they were a complete sell-out.
The pupils worked in teams across three cooking shifts under a gazebo, using portable hobs and electric woks. They were already well practised in their recipes which they had tried and tested in their Club sessions, leading up to the event.
Club Co-ordinator Beverley Robertson said: “I’m incredibly proud of what the pupils have achieved, especially considering how new we are to Let’s Get Cooking. They worked hard on the day, putting into practice everything they’ve learnt in our cooking sessions, as well as serving guests and clearing up. We’ve even had great feedback from parents, thanking us for giving their children this opportunity.”
