TV Chef Simon Rimmer, from BBC Two’s Something for the Weekend programme, spent the morning cooking with club members at Our Lady of Lourdes Primary in Manchester. He’s not the only top chef to visit the club – Phil Green, the Head Chef from the City Inn Hotel in Manchester also spent the day making smoothies with Year 3 pupils.

When the school decided to launch a healthy lunch competition, Club Coordinator Tracy Lee did her best to get a celebrity chef to visit the school and this really helped to get all the children and their parents excited about learning to cook healthy dishes. It was also a great way to inspire pupils to challenge themselves to follow their ambitions, as Simon talked about how difficult it was to set up his own restaurant and how he worked hard to achieve his goal. On the day, he attended a whole school assembly and was shown how to cook the winning healthy lunch recipe, tuna pasta salad, by one of the pupils, although he couldn’t stop himself from joining in! He then moved to the school’s new kitchen and cooked a healthy lunch with a group of pupils, who made their own dishes – helping them out and sharing his cooking tips.
